Founded on Firsthand Experience
Emerald Crater began in 2019 when our founders, after years working in conventional tourism, witnessed the disconnect between traveller intentions and actual environmental impact. They saw guests genuinely wanting to support conservation while unknowingly staying at properties that damaged the ecosystems they came to admire.
The solution seemed straightforward: create a curated network of accommodations and experiences that truly deliver on sustainability promises. Not greenwashing. Not vague commitments. Verified practices, measurable outcomes, and transparent reporting.
Today, we partner with over forty properties and operators across Australia, each meeting rigorous standards for environmental stewardship, community benefit, and guest education.
